Dr Vivian Balakrishnan asked about inter-racial couples at forum

polyethylene thinks Dr Vivian Balakrishnan, Minister for Community Development, Youth and Sports and concurrently Second Minister for Trade and Industry, who is going to be made a full minister tomorrow, is "huggable".

And also tells of a guy who asked Dr Balakrishnan, at a recent forum, what he thought of inter-racial couples.

Er, did this champion for racial purity and general moron know that he was asking a minister who is not just half-Chinese, but also married to a (very lovely) Chinese wife?

Wah lau eh.

the questions. oh boy, I should've known. there were concerned questions about business start ups by students, if they could get some support and help, a question regarding the refusal to set up a political site in Orchard, about how foreigners who came to Singapore could feel more at ease. But a question - and I initially thought he'd ask something intelligent - really made everyone groan and laugh at the same time. (along the lines of..) "Sir, I'd like to get your opinion on this. I, and many of my friends, am a conservative at heart. I see the increase in inter-racial couples.. and I, well, I am a conservative at heart. What do you think about it?"
