browncast: I am Singaporean by Ginny
Another "I am Singaporean" podcast, this one done by Ginny.
National Day is coming soon, so we thought it would be nice to record a message for the occasion.
We were inspired by the Molson beer "I am Canadian" commercial (this is the video from Youtube).
If you like, you can record your own version of "I am Singaporean" and post it on your blog, and leave a link in the comments in there. You can also tag it iamsingaporean and entitle it "I am Singaporean".

Within sadness, there is always hope.
As long as we embrace hope, there will be positive changes.
Let us work together to make a freerer, happier and more democratic nation.

Thanks, Ginny!
You have my support and best regards.
It's never easy to be a mother, more so for mothers in your circumstances. They have my utmost respect.
Don't let anyone think less of our children. Every child is precious.
As a Singaporean, I will not let any monkey snatch away my freedom of speech to comment about my country.
I am a Singaporean.

Yes, it put tears to my eyes. Very touching.

Mr & Mrs Brown..
You have to tell your kids the story when they grow up and are capable of appreciating the circumstances which their parents were in while the kids were growing up.
And let them decide if this part of Singaporean history, from their parents perspective, was honorable and worth remembering.
They can take the Man out of Singapore, but they can never take Singapore out of the Man.

I am a Singaporean
I have a dylexic child
He has severe atopic dermatitis aka eczema
He has sinusitis
He is G6PD
He has food and environment allergies
He has a high IQ and lazy eye
He fails every subject except English
He is in Primary 5.
My fren's grandaughter has cerebral palsy.
She will never ever walk.
She dribbles and can't sit.
She is coming to 3.
My fren's unborn son has a defective heart valve.
He may live to be born and then die in his mum's arms.
Mothers, what can I say?
Our children are so precious to us
And we struggle to be there for them.
Ginny, you made me cry, cos I have been there
When my son struggles so hard but is not able,
When prayer after prayer for frens
has not yet been answered.
Let's all take heart...
The progress may seem so tiny
But little by little they will blossom under our care.
Cheers to all mums!

that was touching, mrs brown, very poignant, .. very poignant.
here at mr brown, you dont just laugh silly, but you also sit up to take notice how some cockoo somewhere is cocking up, and you make a stand, for what you remember, for who you are, and for what you believe.

And I tot I was the only one brawling my eyes out, listening to the podcast. The first one that have made me cried while listening to it. Very touching. Thank goodness I am brawling in the safety of my own home! Can u imagine if I am outside?! So malu! Already the morning passengers of BUS 75 think I am this gila woman who likes to laugh out loud to herself while listening to her ipod.
加油, Ginny! The day will come. And when it does, do remember to share it with us. And give me the date too, so that I can go out and buy 4D!

I am part of the last generation of kids that lived in a world without pagers and mobile phone.
I learnt to brush my teeth properly squatting next to a drain in primary school.
My grandparents and parents taught me the value of saving. I don't wish to own a credit card even when they give it to me for free.
I served 2 and a half years of National Slavery... i mean Service just before they cut it down to 2 years.
My dad paid for my studies in Australia because I was deemed too lousy for a local university.
I paid for my own $2000 car in Australia that has jump started many flashy sports cars bought with "daddy's money"
I firmly believe that the MDA TV/Radio licence is BULLSHIT, along with many other policies,
I'm now in the process of informing all the various departments of things I don't have and laws that I'm not breaking.
I wonder how many people in my generation will live in a life of debt.
I strongly believe that working at Macdonalds or clearing up clogged toilet bowls are NOT the jobs for 70year old "retirees"
I buy my supplements and medicine from other countries because they cost 1/2 the price compared to pharmacies here.
My bosses hired me not because of my qualification but because of what they KNOW I can contribute to their company.
I proudly work for Malaysian bosses, gladly contributing to their 7figure turnover with only 5 staff in the office.
I get rewarded with incentives regularly without scheming tactics like "variable bonus"
I don't slog in a 9-5 job pushing papers anymore
My nickname SIM37 is my real name LEWIS upside down.
My real name is Lewis Loh and I am a Singaporean.... So Say we all.

Who would understand more than the parents who pain for a child deemed not perfect in this part of the world.
My first girl was born with severe heart defects and told she has only 3 months to live.
Strong headed, I dont believe any human to play God and applied for Medisave to release fund to let my baby be treated in some advance country coz in the 80s our doc is not good enough. Medisave rejected given reason that the fund is only for local treatment. I knew my baby will die if treated here. Frustrated, I sold my private property and travel to Seattle then Australia to seek treatment.
Now she is 22 & final year in nursing diploma. Well, I have gone thru much humiliation during her education here. MOE does not cater to medically unfit student and being told constantly that she should go to subnormal school. To encourage the suffering parents, my girl awarded scholarship since in Sec till now. She did very well in all her English medium subjects. Nothing is impossible and do not be lead by what PAP governance dictates.
I am a single mum enjoying my girls'love and living in an old broken rented house driving a small car fully maintained by my company. My girls did not miss their dad coz we are best of friends even though we are not husband and wife now.
I used to be very ashame as a Singaporean but since the baseless accusation arrowed at MB, I dare to declare I am a Singaporean now and a good citizen coz I paid my tax promptly; never commit crime and never voted PAP.
So say we all. Mr & Mrs Brown, you are not alone. Have Faith for faith and all your children. God bless

You know I am proud of being Singaporean.
I am pissed as heck for this "Holier than thou" behavior.
Giving you guys "the mandate" doesn't mean that you can mess our lives around while you guys Grub away food, wine and caviar.
Mr Brown, I've been wanting to say this:
I am a fucking Patriot of Singapore.
(if anyman loves, proud of his country, not the faction who rule is a Patriot)
I swear my loyalty & my life to this Nation Which I call My Home.
( Where do I go? OZ, USA or UK? Please!)
I will not waver or sway to whims of others in which they have an agenda in.
( You say bend over and I bend over? Dream on!)
I regard: Honesty, Candour and Integrity as Highest value of Values one can acheive.
( Trust me, it's very hard to do in a wayang society)
Because many lack the Will & the Resolve to carry this out.
( You guys dare to do the supposely unthinkable?)

One of the most touching podcasts I have ever heard...have faith in Faith...she will pull through..
Posted by: Jimmy Seah | Jul 7, 2006 3:01:42 PM
well said and like many people who read it .... a sense of nostaglia and fond memories of the old days flooded me.
as much as i dislike the doings of the ruling party, i realised this is the place i love, the common people around us ... you are right, this is my country and thank to you, for a very brief moment, i am happy and proud of this country .....

hey mr brown & mrs brown... my dad is a singaporean & my mom is a malaysian just like you!
the saying ask not what your country can do for you but what u can do for your country... its something we can all adlib & adapt it to most given situations..
& as far as i can see, mr brown has given alot to our country to think about, at the expense of his sanity & reputation & mrs brown has given alot to her family & kids whom i think would grow up to be fantastic adults.

Hi Ginny,
My son has ASD too, when you said you can't wait for your daughter to call you mommy, I've been there too. My son is 9 now, he can talk now, he calls me mama now. He got better, and I hope ur daughter will too. Ur entry made me cry cos' it made me remember how helpless I was. I didn't understand how his mind works, why something so simple is so hard for him to understand. No matter what, with perseverence, it will get better. All the best to you and Mr Brown.
