So you think you can be a Singapore-style star?

We are at the in-laws and the tv no one is watching is on. It's showing the Star Search finals, where finalists are vying to be the next crop of Singapore's Chinese tv celebrities.

Wife to me: I thought this was an acting competition? Why are the finalists doing stunts?

Me: The Star Search contestants must show they can perform in charity shows too mah. That's their staple work too, you know.

Wife: So this is for Most Able to Attract 1-900 Donations in Charity Stunt Shows Star lah.

Me: I wonder how the Hong Kong celebrity judges feel having to give their comments on the stunt segment.

Wife (in Chinese): "Your expression when you were perched on the ladder was very touching and able to make viewers feel so sad they will call the donation hotline. Well done, contestant S8."
