Make up your mind CNA!
This was spotted by my friend Evangion and me today, on Channel NewsAsia's site.
So, which story or angle or headline do you guys want to run? (You can click on the images for a larger version)
Is it "More jobs will go to PRs in a strong economy"? (spotted at 11am)
Or is it "More Singaporeans taking up PMET posts"? (spotted after lunch, about 2pm)
Or is it "More and more jobs created but not enough S'poreans to fill them"? (spotted at 4pm)
Three revisions in the space of less than five hours. Not only did the headline change, the copy was also rewritten. You can go to this URL to see the current headline.

I don't think this is the 1st time CNA pull such a stun thou. I think a simalar report is reported a little while ago with similar headlines.
I would say that we should read news from other sources rather than local sources.

its the PAP editting the newspaper of course! no way you can have an article that could be negative of policies without them editing it to something more positive.

Sweet ~ a clear display of proactive self censorship. 'Good boy'.

its not just this one.
if u noticed the one abt that Teo idiot, u will notice that CNA, as well as other media are inconsistent with the number of rounds he carried out of camp.
in addition, there are spelling errors, all over sometimes. it seems like nobody in CNA knows how to press the key 'F7'.

Reminds me of the similar change in headlines at ST recently.
------------------
Govt has finally revealed employment statistic that segregate citizens from PRs/foreigners. But govt still telling half-truths yet again. Note the following:
1) The official data are for up to 2006 only. What about 2007 figures??
2) 24% of citizens between ages 24 to 64 were not working in 2006. The govt didn't disclose the unemployment rate for citizen in that year.
3) The proportion of new jobs going to foreigners/PRs increased from 55% in 2004, to 60% in 2005 and to 63% in 2006. One can safely assume that the figure for 2007 will be even more dismay.
4) A whopping 40% of all jobs (as at December 2006) are held by PRs/foreigners. Again, the govt didn't disclose the figure for 2007.
5) An astonishing 56% of workers in manufacturing are foreigners/PRs as at December 2006.
Absolutely shocking!!! Little wonder that the govt didn't want to release such data until now.

Our piece of land is becoming like a crab town, more and more crabby stuff at intensifying speed.

Channel News Asia. Who's news is it anyway?
Chenghu, lor!
You don't know we are beginning to get a "dose of bad government" meh?
Aiyah, the millions peanuts we are paying the ministers are well, peanuts!
That's why we are having "security lapse", "Hongbao Budget (pay $1 get 60 cents back)" and you name it.
They deserve another raise. Otherwise, there'll be more sub-standard service and we may lose them to the private sector. Looks like we may lose the Home Affairs Minister soon.

3 cheers for u Mr Brown !!
sometimes when we are surrounded by so many foreign talents, it made me feeel so foreign.
who are the 'FTs' in this case?
Posted by: Sam | Mar 1, 2008 2:29:20 AM
Of course more Singaporeans take PMET jobs. If not what we do in our own country? Sweep the floor? Clear HBD rubbish chute? then who take PMET job? Foreign talents from other countries? It will be strange to see us be willing slaves to foreign talents. Maybe can consider foreign talent in Parliament since they like them so much!!!

Guys, give them a break lah, they do put a fairly sizeable effort at trying to paint a rosy picture you know inspite of the doom and gloom that almost all (save for the top 10%) of us face in our daily lives.

News on cyberspace is fluid, unlike print news which stays as it is. Corrections and revisions can and will take place on news websites as and when necessary or desired. Let's keep it that way, than to expect our news websites to remain as staid and stuck-in-the-mud as the printed news.

Nothing new. A few times I caught them putting the banner "BREAKING NEWS" for some not-so-big-deal news only to have it changed minutes later.

If it's so easy to smoke like this on a website... man, I want such a job, I'm good at it!

Towards the end of the MING Dynasty, the entire government was non functional and the emperor surround himself with yes men etc... the same is happening in singapore.. the number of yes men are increasing and plenty of $$ are needed to buy their silence and loyalty...

"More and more jobs created"....? My five-year old daughter speaks like this!
Posted by: supersub | Mar 4, 2008 11:16:24 PM
Maybe the good thing is that CNA tried twice to give us the "truth"?
