Update: After being married for so many years, I would like to share my revised views. Have a wedding you can afford. Don't over-commit to pricey dinners and expect guests to finance your wedding, just because of face. That your friends and relatives, rich or poor, come to see you getting married is already a blessing, and we should not expect them to pay big angpows if they can't afford to. Never make them feel bad about it. Start your marriage on the right foot, without a big wedding bill and debt. Yes, it is the Big Day but it is only the first day of a lifelong union.

Getting married can be costly is Singapore. I mean, that has got to be the understatement of the year. Gone are the days when you can just take a couple of photos at the nearby Photo Studio (aircon), wearing the gown and suit they provide there, and then get yourself registered. Noooo, we have to go through a whole shebang and involve Hotels, Restaurants, Bridal Boutiques and the Housing Board.

So I'm on this KTM train bound for Kuala Lumpur being served Light Snack (some oily rice and pieces of chicken) and enjoying the service that even other train companies talk about.

I had planned to drive up to Ipoh to visit an old friend who was getting married but the thought of driving 6 hours plus another 5 hours sitting in a jam at the Causeway made me decide to take my chances with the Malaysian Rail.
