Why parking fee deducted 3 times
I THANK Mr Tan Boon Wye for his feedback, 'Carpark fee deducted from CashCard 3 times' (ST, Nov 30).
Under normal circumstances, a successful CashCard transaction in a carpark is recorded in a four-step process. First, the transaction amount is deducted from the CashCard and the balance is updated on the card. Second, the transaction is recorded in the card reader. Third, a log of the transaction is recorded on the CashCard itself. Subsequent to these three steps, the transactions are uploaded by the carpark system into the Nets system.
In Mr Tan's case, an investigation showed that the third step of writing the transaction onto the log of the card was disrupted as a result of an irregular power supply from an adaptor.
This resulted in the transaction not being logged in. This also explained why the transactions performed by Mr Tan were not reflected in the statement printed from the log of the card.
Based on the transactions recorded in the Nets system which were uploaded from the card reader, Nets had verified and honoured the transactions and made payment to the carpark operator for all three transactions.
In addition, Nets had made arrangements with the carpark operator to reimburse Mr Tan for the two extra deductions.
Mr Tan had done the right thing by contacting Nets to verify his transactions. Motorists who have a similar experience can contact Nets Customer Service and Sales on 6274-1212 to verify the details on their card.
Like all pre-paid cards, the CashCard is anonymous and we do not know the identity of the cardholder. Hence, we encourage all Nets CashCard holders to register for Nets Rewards.
Apart from the benefits, having their name and details registered in the Nets system makes it easier for us to contact them.
