At the rate this site is growing, with almost daily updates, many posts tend to get pushed off from the front page really fast. It can also be a pain in the behind to wade through all my stuff to get to popular posts.
I tried to up the number of posts on the front page from 10 to 15, but even then, many posts get pushed into archive too soon.
So I have created a new category called "Popular" to feature posts that have generated a high amount of interest.
That, or I think the post deserved to have a longer shelf life than a few days on the front page. Or I liked the font, whatever.
Ok, I confess, the selection process is all completely arbitrary, with limited transparency and poor internal controls, and not audited by independent public accountants. This new category will result in more than US$500 million in trading losses, and taint Singapore's reputation as a financial centre.
But what to do? I like using the neat "multiple categories" feature of Typepad to keep a post's original categorisation, while also having it in another. The market be damned.
In addition, I have also started to post full columns for my older TODAY pieces that no longer show up on TODAYonline, so that you will not just get an Excerpt and a dead link when you read the older columns.
I will also be adding the earlier columns that date back to June 2003.
By the way, you guys are eating up 8GB of bandwidth monthly now. I am flattered by the traffic but wow, 8GB. Sheesh, is anyone hotlinking to my images or what? I know, I know, use less images. But I like pretty pictures.
Thank goodness I don't offer streaming video or audio here, or I would need to operate my own T1 server. Heheh.
