Last week, Simon of Simonworld, Hongkong, dropped by our little island for a one-night-only visit (he was here for work) and a couple of us met up with him for a late dinner at East Coast Lagoon Food Centre.
It was right decent of him to take the trouble, considering that he flew in at 7.15pm and was going to fly out before noon the next day after a morning meeting.
Our merry band consisted of Simon, me, Miyagi, James (who dropped everything, including his wife at Taka, to join us) and the very shy Cowboy Caleb.
Over Heinies served in cold Tiger mugs and some satay (real one, not the stuff Simon ate on the plane), we talked about everything under the moon. Simon shared some of his experiences in Hongkong blogging as an expat, in particular, how news is reported differently in the English Hongkong papers (read by expats and locals) and the Chinese Hongkong papers (read by locals).
We also gave him an overview of Tomorrow.sg, and discussed the challenges of open discourse in our respective countries. But mainly, we made fun of Caleb and his photo-shyness.
In a bizarre twist to the evening, some OCS officer cadets marched by our beer garden, disappearing into the night. No rest for the defenders of our nation's shores, I suppose.
