Update: littlecartnoodles, our friend from HK sez:
"All of you are brainwashed lackeys of the Western imperialistic, bourgeois capitalistic IP monopolists !
Those are beloved characters from traditional Chinese folklore, okay? That's Mitchy the Mouse That Does Not Eat The Rice Of Hardworking Peasants and Donner the Liberated Peking Duck!
And which Chinese child will not recognise Nihao Catty?"
We stand corrected, haha!
Free from copyright, I mean.
This is a Japanese news report on the infamous Shijingshan Amusement Park in Beijing, an eerie clone of Disneyland mentioned in Boing Boing. There's even Shrek, Hello Kitty and Doraemon sharing the limelight with Goofy, Mickey and Donald.
Bizarre stuff. You know a country has set a whole new standard in copyright violation when an entire theme park is copied and built. Makes DVD piracy look pale in comparison. Hey, maybe Dreamworks and Disney can learn from China and do a DisneyDreamworksland to compete with China.
