It's the end of the week, time for batteries to be recharged

This is the weekly line of some of my bicycle lights queuing to have their rechargeable batteries charged. I use mostly Sanyo 2700mah AAs for the high drain front steady lights, and Sanyo Eneloop AAs and AAAs for the lights that blink.

The Eneloops have lower power than the 2700s but do not discharge as much when not in use, perfect for blinkers.

From left to right, the lights are a pair of Fenix L2Ds, three Cat Eye TL-LD610s, an S-Sun SL310 Eaglefly, a Cat Eye HL-EL320, and a Maxxon wireless brake light.

The Maxxon is quite cool. Using G-force technology similar to the Wii controller, it knows when you are applying the brakes of your bicycle and will emit a brake signal.

On Sunday nights, another queue starts. This time the bicycles themselves queue to get their tire pressure checked and tires pumped.

The series airs on 1st of April, and it does not look like an April Fool's joke.

乒乓圆 is the Chinese title of this series about ping pong.

Heck, "Table of Glory" beats even the title of my tribute to one of their tv dramas.

I don't know which is worse. The ignorance of Singapore history or the ignorance of the various meanings of the word "Gay".

Please please please, go and read some history of Singapore before posting these photos and questions. There's this thing called Google that can help.

Mom and Dad's wedding photos

Mom dug these up recently. They used to hang in our 3-room flat in Upper Aljunied Lane and somehow got lost in the move to a bigger place. I think Mom looked really gorgeous and Dad a handsome dude.

I wonder if my kids will look at our wedding photos with the same sense of awe and fascination when we reach our later years.

Which reminds me, a few more days and it will be 12 years for the wife and me. Not counting the years we were courting.

Courting, that is such an archaic word these days, isn't it? Do people even court anymore?

Actually, the courtship never stops. It shouldn't. In fact, I reckon courtship matters even more when you've been married for a long time. That is the reason the wife and I still go on dates, still go to the movies without the kids, still travel with just each other.

My dad recently bought my mom a gem when they were in Thailand. I thought it was very sweet of him. Mom showed it off to me, proud of his little gesture from a man not known for his romantic gestures.

Bangkok Day 4: Thong Lo street food

The wife and I check out Thong Lo for the street food. Just two BTS stations away from our hotel, the street has quite a nice variety of food and a very good dessert stall.

Bangkok Day 4: Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit hotel

This is the deluxe room the wife and I are staying in whilst in Bangkok. It is huge.

The Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit is located just next to the Asok BTS Skytrain station. It even has a covered walkway to the station, which makes getting around the heart of Bangkok very convenient. The subway is also just across the street.

The wife and I took many Skytrain rides because of this convenience.

We also loved the hotel pool. There was supposed to be piped-in underwater music but we didn't hear it when we were there. We spent more time in the whirlpool anyway. It was a heated jacuzzi style pool and we just soaked there for an hour, enjoying the warm water and the pulsing jets.

he breakfast buffet was another winner. The spread was good (we had roast beef with apple sauce available for breakfast) and the breakfast was open from 5.30am to 10.30am, when most other hotels I've been to open from 6am to 10am.

You know how to tell a hotel has made an impression on you?

As our Skytrain pulled up to Asok station, both of us said, "Yay, we are back at our hotel!"
