I have a new column with CNNGo.com called "Say What? with mrbrown" Do drop by and read my first piece there: The Sports Hub cometh... soon
Excerpt:
Talk about being late. The Sports Hub won't be ready in time for the 2013 SEA Games because of repeated delays due to funding woes.Originally, the idea was to host this major sporting event using the new 55,000-seater National Stadium with the retractable roof.
And being the gracious country that Singapore is, we are offering our Southeast Asian neighbors a once-in-a-lifetime chance to take the hosting 2013 SEA Games off our hands.
We have been told that the Sports Hub, a replacement for the National Stadium, is being developed using a PPP approach. No, it does not stand for People-Patience-Please but Public-Private Partnership. This means a private consortium will raise funds to build it, and the Government pays the consortium annually for the facilities when they are operational.
The Sports Hub's completion date was pushed back several times, from 2011 to 2012 to 2013. This is way beyond even the Mayan calendar. (cont'd)
