I took a bus today to work because I left my daily bike in the office the night before to watch Tron Legacy. One of the things I like to do when I take public transport is to catch up on my reading, which driving or riding doesn't let you do.
So throughout the bus ride, I peered into my iPhone 4 screen, a little closer than a person without age-related long-sightedness would. When I got off the bus, I was still blasting Tobymac into my wireless headphones, and reading my iPhone, oblivious to my surroundings except when I needed to cross the road.
I found out later that someone saw me. More than one.
@skatrinas a.k.a Stella posted on twitter:
"Was on the same bus as @mrbrown. Watching him glued to his iPhone, then look around frantically to see if he missed his stop. Lol."
I jokingly told her that I have a radar that lets me walk and read my iPhone at the same time, and then she replied:
"@mrbrown we got off at the same stop and i was walking ahead of you. turned around, and you were still glued to the phone, WHILE WALKING."
Then @dwwh a.k.a Dom tweeted:
"Might have walked past @mrbrown on the way home from lunch 15mins ago…"
I asked him if it was around the Katong area, and he said yes, Still Road.
Yup, that was me.
When I got off the bus, I stopped for a while to tie one of my shoelaces. And from the corner of my eye, I spotted a cyclist riding in my direction, and moved from the pavement to the grass so he could continue uninterrupted.
@yongwei92 (Yong Wei) tweeted just now:
"Nearly knocked onto @mrbrown as he tied his shoelace after alighting from bus, yes sir I was that cyclist"
One bus ride, three tweets from three people. I am amused but also glad I didn't dig my nose in public or anything.
