Dr Tony Tan, a.k.a. Presidential Hopeful, a.k.a. Our Former DPM, a.k.a. Currently Unemployed (he resigned from SPH and GIC to run), and his campaign team invited a few of us to lunch last week.
I was joined by Daphne Ling of Motherinc, Alvin Lim, Ravi Philemon of The Online Citizen, Pat Law (her hair can fight with Dr Tan), Mr Miyagi, Dr Cherian George, Alex Au of Yawning Bread (I found myself typing Brain instead of Bread because his brain is so big) and Kien M Lee.
We had a nice lunch and a good chat at NUSS Guild House, Bukit Timah (love the green and locale, hate the dress code because a shirt is a pain to cycle in). I even asked about his hair out loud (to which he smiled enigmatically). Sorry guys, how he keeps it so neatly groomed remains a national secret.
I assure you that no one sold their soul to the Tony Tan campaign over lunch (I'd ask for AT LEAST a whole abalone. I have ethics, you know).
With the likes of Dr Tan, Cherian George and Alex Au, we were in the presence of immense brainpower. Miyagi and I were thinking the same thing: "Don't say anything stupid."
Miyagi thought of "Duck is tasty." I was thinking, "Prawn very big!" as a sufficiently neutral thing to say.
Later on, Miyagi asked me, "Where does Alex keep that big a brain in his head?"
I suspect he has brain matter stashed somewhere else in his person.
You know, it is a sign of the times that I couldn't decide which online property to link these folks to: their blog, their twitter account, or Facebook pages. Soon I will need to also include Google Plus accounts. Yikes.
Yes, I wore my glasses that day. I thought it would make me look a little more intelligent next to Dr Tan's eternally fashionable glasses. See? Even Sonia of Jayesslee is wearing big glasses!
