In the unfolding saga of the Punggol-East by-election, under the "You cannot make this stuff up" department, SDP proposes a joint campaign with Workers' Party.
SDP Secretary-General Chee Soon Juan says:
"In the spirit of compromise and cooperation, we would like to propose that our two parties run a joint campaign and field one candidate from the SDP. If victorious, the SDP candidate will enter Parliament and the WP will run the Punggol East Town Council."
Wah! Good deal leh! WP gets to help SDP get a man into Parliament, then SDP's man keeps the MP allowance and does the speeches in Parliament thing, while WP gets to run the Town Council.
Workers' Party! What are you waiting for? Forget about running yourselves already! You will gain the "added clout" of SDP leh! AND do all the glamorous work of clearing rubbish for the estate too!
In a quick counter-offer, the proudly-unpolitical "party" Every Day Party said:
"BREAKING NEWS: Every Day Party would like to propose a joint campaign with Singapore Democratic Party (SDP), where together we field one SDP candidate. SDP will pay the $16,000 deposit and, if victorious, the SDP candidate will enter Parliament, and SDP will run Punggol East Town Council. EDP will just claim the candidate's salary."
Together we huat, is what EDP is saying to SDP. Win-win-win all the way. 我吃香蕉你吃皮!
If WP doesn't bite, I propose SDP Secretary-General Chee Soon Juan says this to PAP instead:
"In the spirit of compromise and cooperation, we would like to propose that Dr Koh Poh Koon steps aside and our two parties run a joint campaign and field one candidate from the SDP instead. If victorious, the SDP candidate will enter Parliament and the PAP will run the Punggol East Town Council. PAP already knows how to run it anyway, and SDP will bring its added clout to parliament. And we will together block WP from gaining a foothold in the East. It will be win-win-win."
PAP would be stupid to reject such an awesome deal.
